Winter Solstice Festival – Saturday!

The Events committee is very excited about the upcoming Winter Solstice Festival taking place this Saturday from 11am to 4pm.
There are many activities planned for the day such as the Woodland Pond where the “Good Witch” will hand out wishing acorns and feathers to the children; a silent auction featuring some amazing and eco friendly toys, tickets to events, gift certificates to local shops etc; raffle baskets; home made delicious food (chili, soup, sandwiches), baked goods, storytelling, craft making and several craft vendors!

We are also excited to have Leah Salomaa doing a welcome circle at 11:30am in the gym, and all the classrooms are preparing songs to sing in either the gym or in Sandee’s kindergarten room. Look for an email from your class rep about the timing of your child’s performance. They have been practicing for weeks, so hopefully you can make it! The children are also all making crafts in the classroom, and these will be for sale on Saturday. They will only be on “private” sale until 2:30 however, at which time they will be offered to the public to purchase.

We still need a handful of volunteers to help us on Saturday, particularly with the tear down from 4-6pm. If you are available please email Lorraine at lorraines@balancephysiotherapy.com.

Also, we could use a few more silent auction items, so we are encouraging parents to think outside the box. Perhaps you have a family cottage you can donate for a weekend getaway, or maybe you have services to offer? If you are able to donate something, the deadline is Thursday and you will need to notify Toby Haensel at tobias.haensel@pricemetrix.com.

Our baked goods table is coming along (slowly) so we are seeking more baked goods items such as cupcakes, squares, cookies, loaves, pies etc. please email Angel at angel.riccio@gmail.com if you are able to contribute. All items must be brought in before 10:45 on Saturday and please label your dish. We prefer that the items arrive in dishes with lids to avoid excess garbage such as saran wrap, foil etc. Our Green Team is going to be managing all the waste so let’s try and make their job as easy as possible!

Finally, we need some power bars to plug in all the beautiful lights! If you are already planning on bringing lights for your tree, please let Julie know if you are able to also bring a power bar. The school only has one available for us to use and we need several more.

Any items you have agreed to lend us must be clearly labeled (including tree stands) and can be dropped off in the water storage room anytime between now and Friday. Jodi has the key and can let you into the room.

This is going to be a very memorable event and we are excited to share it with both the Whole Child School & Roden School communities, as well as the broader community! Please remember that this is a fundraiser event for WCS and all activities taking place will be ticketed (ranging from 1-4 tickets) and each ticket is $1. Don’t forget your canned food item or old cell phone for recycling, as each family will receive 1 ticket for their contribution!
