Just a reminder that Earth Hour is around the corner, coming up this Saturday, March 23 at 8:30 pm. As their website says, “Earth Hour is your opportunity to show your commitment to change as part of a global interconnected community”.
It’s also an opportunity for fun with the kids. Almost anything takes on a special feel in the dark, or with just the light of a candle or flashlight or homemade lantern (easy make: attach tissue paper pieces to a glass jar with a brush dipped in a white glue and water mix, and then place a tea light in the jar).
Some random ideas for fun with the kids during Earth Hour:
1. Go for a walk around the block. Hopefully you’ll notice fewer lights than usual.
2. Take a bath by candlelight.
3. Play a game at home – you don’t need much light for cards, and none at all for word games and 20 Questions.
4. Build a fort or put up a tent, huddle inside, and tell stories.
5. Invite friends over.
6. Huddle and talk. Or stay quiet.
The World Wildlife Fund Canada posted this video to share. I confess I laughed when I saw it, and your kids might too. Happy Earth Hour!
